AAOS: APPROPRIATE USE CRITERIA FOR OPTIMIZING THE MANAGEMENT OF FULL-THICKNESS ROTATOR CUFF TEARS

rotatorcuffaucfull.pdf

The AAOS published this month a new AUC or Appropriate Use Criteria for the optimizing the management of full-thickness rotator cuff tears.  It is a really helpful tool that assists clinicians in selecting appropriate treatment.  As the publication warns, the AUC should not be used to supplant a good history and physical examination.

The voting process involved over 400 separate scenarios, that myself and the other 15 voting members reviewed initially online, and later in person in Chicago.  The process itself was quite fascinating and really demonstrated the areas in the literature that requires work.

After reviewing the AUC, I am quite proud of the product, and am sure that it will help many orthopaedic surgeons.
